Mr Desmond Tan

Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment

We have made good progress in industry transformation since the launch of the Security Industry Transformation Map (ITM) in 2018. There has been more interest from the industry in moving towards Outcome-Based Contracts (OBCs). Technology adoption is also seeing a positive uptake, with majority of surveyed security agencies indicating that they have adopted Industry Digital Plan solutions.

We could not have made this progress without the industry’s and union’s partnership. While we still have more to do, it is important that we also celebrate success along the way. Thus, the Singapore Security Industry Awards (SSIA) is a timely and important initiative to recognise players in the industry who have taken up the call to transform, and to encourage the wider industry to shift towards smarter, manpower-lean security solutions. I would like to thank the Security Industry Institute, the Security Systems Association of Singapore, and the Security Association of Singapore for organising the SSIA.

My heartfelt congratulations goes to the 31 SSIA recipients comprising security agencies, security systems providers, building owners, and in-house security departments. They are outstanding examples of how the smart use of technology results in higher productivity, better security outcomes, and better jobs for Security Officers (SOs).

For example, FormTeam Consultancy and Bulls-Eye Security Services used video analytics to transform their SOs’ jobs, upgraded their skills, and improved their productivity. Another SSIA recipient, AETOS Guards Services, harnessed smart technologies and video analytics to develop targeted and holistic security solutions. An example would be their use of artificial intelligence to detect vehicular and humans intrusions which can trigger an alarm system prompting immediate response from officers on site. In addition, they have embarked on a programme to upskill their SOs in digital literacy and basic facilities management course, preparing them for redesigned roles in the future.

For their sterling efforts and being a leading example, I am glad to note that FormTeam Consultancy, Bulls-Eye Security Services, and AETOS Guards Services have been awarded the SSIA’s most prestigious accolade: the Alexander Henson Security Agency of the Year Award.

I urge everyone in the industry to follow their example, so that we can collectively achieve our ITM vision of a competitive and more technologically advanced security industry, that delivers better security outcomes, and provides better jobs for Singaporeans.

Congrats again to all award winners!
